Carl Renezeder Battles On In The Wild Wild West

Reno, NV

Rounds 11 & 12 of the 2016 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series were held at the Wild West Motorsports Park in Sparks, Nevada, right outside of Reno.

Saturday's racing started out with the Lucas Oil / KMC Wheels / Team Associated / BFGoodrich Tires #17 - Pro 4 truck on the third row, on the inside. By the second or third lap he was in 2nd place behind Kyle Leduc, in the #99 truck. Renezeder's truck was handling great, and everything was going really well, when alarms went off on his dash. Within two short laps, the blue light which shows low water pressure came on. Renezeder had to pull over into the hot pits as he had a leak in the water line and was not getting cool water to the engine. The crew added some fluid, but the water loss was too great to keep on going.

In the Pro 2 race, Renezeder didn't qualify so well, and started near the back. During the race, he made his way up to third place. "We had a lot of good battles; had a lot of people banging on my doors but we managed to hold everybody off and ended up getting a podium in Pro 2. That was a great result coming from an 8th place starting position," stated Renezeder.

On Sunday, Renezeder started his Pro 4 on the outside of row one. Doug Fortin was next to him and got a great start. After about a lap or two, Renezeder got by Fortin, and then held the lead for 12 laps. Out of the blue, in turn four, he suddenly flipped. When asked what happened, he replied, "It was the weirdest thing. It was like the Bermuda Triangle, same thing happened to Menzies last year in that same corner. I really don't know what happened. The front end felt like it folded under.

Usually you can feel the truck before it goes over and you can correct it, but in this particular instance, it just flipped upside down, quicker than I could even think. "It was a pretty hard roll, there's quite a bit of damage to the truck, but fortunately we have 5 weeks before the next race. We lost a lot of points this weekend, but we are still holding our lead. We are going to lick our wounds, get back to the drawing board, and go for it in the last races of the season. We are determined to pick up another Championship in Pro 4."

For the last race of the weekend, Renezeder started up front again in his #17 Lucas Oil / KMC Wheels / Team Associated / BFGoodrich Tires Pro 2. Carl had a great run going, behind MacCachren's #21, who was running really strong. "We were in second place, when a yellow came out, I could feel the motor tightening up a little, losing a little bit of power. I was losing speed, and within a couple of laps, something broke in the motor. Not sure what, but it made a whole lot of noise and I had to pull over." stated Renezeder.

Carl was philosophical about the weekend "It was a tough weekend for us, but it's not about what you do on your good days, it's about what you do on your bad days. We’ll recover and have plenty for the competition in Lake Elsinore."

Catch Renezeder and crew for rounds 13 and 14 on September 23-24 at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, in Lake Elsinore, California under the lights!
