LOS ANGELES, CA (June 25, 2012) -- KMC Wheels will return to X Games this weekend with top athletes competing in Motocross and Rally Car Racing.
X Games veteran Travis Pastrana and first-timer Bryce Menzies will compete in the X Games Rallycross competition this coming Sunday (July 1) as teammates in virtually identical 600 horsepower Dodge Darts.
Pastrana is favored for a top finish at the race as one of the only drivers to have competed in Rally Car Racing six times. He is an X Games veteran, having dominated many of the motocross disciplines including his groundbreaking double-backflip in the 2006 Best Trick competition. He has a total of 17 X Games medals, four -- including two Gold – from Rally Car Racing competition.
Off-road racer Bryce Menzies is looking to be a spoiler in the Rallycross when he makes his debut appearance this coming weekend as a teammate to Pastrana. Named the 2011 Dirt Sports Racer of the year, Menzies has chalked up an impressive slate of results in off-road competition including back-to-back Baja 500 wins.
Motocross riders Ronnie Renner, Mike Metzger and Robbie Maddison have also had long-standing relationships with the KMC brand. Renner will compete in Step Up, Metzger is slated to appear in Best Whip, and Maddison is entered in the Speed and Style discipline.
Renner will make his 12th appearance at X Games this summer. The veteran rider is known for his flair for showmanship and he has earned a total of five medals in motocross disciplines, including a pair of Golds in Step Up.
Metzger, known as “the Godfather,” is a key figure in Freestyle Motocross. A noted innovator, he has earned five X Games medals over the years and set a Guinness World Record for a motocross backflip. He is returning to X Games for a sixth appearance.
2012 marks Maddison’s fifth trip to the landmark action sports contest in Los Angeles. The Australian has previously competed in Freestyle, Step-Up, Best Whip, and Rallycross, with a career-best result of silver in the 2010 Best Trick competition. Maddison is perhaps best known for his mega-jump stunts, including a 378-foot, nine-inch leap to ring in the 2012 New Year in San Diego for Red Bull New Year. No Limits.
The X Games format brings the best competitors in the world under one roof for a four-day annual celebration of action sport. It is televised on the ESPN family of channels.
